Animal testing policy
We do not undertake or commission animal testing of any kind.
For all our own-brand products, we choose only products made from ingredients which have not been tested or retested on animals since 2000.
Exceptions
For some products, notably pesticides, UK legal requirements (Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act, 1986, as amended) enforce the use of animal testing to ensure human safety before they can be sold. In these cases, we exempt the products and their ingredients from our policy requirement.
Cosmetics (including fragrances) constitute a tiny fraction of the Argos product range. Many of these are well-known proprietary brands, over which Argos has no influence.
Homebase supplies household products which may be tested or manufactured with ingredients that are tested on animals. Examples of such products are:
- Hand cleansers and other products designed for skin contact
- Garden chemicals, including pesticides
- Household cleaners and other household chemicals.
Implementation
We communicate this policy to all of our relevant own-brand suppliers. We periodically survey our suppliers to ensure that they are complying with our policy. Where suppliers claim a legal exemption, we ask that they justify this in writing to us.
